CLI Developer Edition licensing

All versions of Diffblue Cover CLI require a licence, but you can get a free trial of our Developer Edition for 14 consecutive days by completing the form here. This will allow you to write tests for any Java class or method, and access our basic support package, for free!

Once you have completed your request for a 14-day free trial, we will email you a download link and a license key. The process below is the same whether you are using a free trial license or a full Developer Edition license.

  1. Click on the relevant link in the email to download your trial Developer Edition in a zip file (choose from Windows, macOS and Linux).
  2. Double-click on the file in your download folder to unzip and install Developer Edition. (Further installation details can be found here.)
  3. When you reach a command prompt, enter the command: dcover activate XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX (where XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX is your license key from your email) to activate your license. You can only use the license key once.

Please note that both your Developer Edition trial or full license is limited to 500 tests per day, and you cannot write tests for any method where the tests written will use more than half your daily allowance in a single run. Please see our pricing plans for unlimited options.

A new license will overwrite an older one, for example, if you have a trial license and then upgrade to a paid version, you only need to enter your new license key.
